An upbeat neighborhood where you will find little artesian shops, restaurants and museums blend in with start-up companies and older established entities. Once, a place where fisherman brought the fish to land, stored the nets in small chalets while boats lay in the harbor and now a revived bustling neighborhood.  The Modern Art Museum and Kling and Bang gallery will open their show rooms in soon-to-be renovated Marshall house. Additionally the well-known artist Olafur Eliasson, will have a studio in this former herring meal factory, to be open in 2017.

A walk by the sea, towards Grótta light tower, is cherished by all the locals whether to enjoy the breathtaking view overlooking the bay and the Snæfellsnes peninsula or for a breath of fresh air and an exercise. Grótta is the best spot to admire a dreamy orange-pink sunset on a bright summer evening or to experience the dancing aurora borealis on a dark winter night. An inspiration to litterateur and poetry, a source of endless adventures and a home of Iceland's most successful soccer team, KR, Vesturbærinn is an authentic locality. You might be in luck to run into some of the famous residents, the world known singer Björk or the first female president of Iceland, Vígdís Finnbogadottir. As you cross over to the other side, you will find a path alongside the water where you can look over the bay to Bessastaðir, the residency of the president of Iceland.
